Wicked ~ Musical vs. Book?

I just saw Wicked last night. I had read the book prior to the musical. I want to know other's opinions on how they felt the book compared to the musical. Or if you've only read the book your expectations of the play. If you've only seen the show how likely are you to read the book. Thanks.

The book I thought was fantabulous. I saw the musical post-book but I had listened to the music before I read the book. So in other words, I could take what I wanted from the songs I knew and compare them to the book before I was the musical. Even before I saw the musical I could tell the differences were huge. It's almost entirely different! I really enjoyed both book and show though... I just looked at them in different ways.

Wicked ~ Musical vs. Book?extension opera theaterI thought that the musical itself was so much better than the book. I just think it was more my style. They were completely different, I think the book was a little bit explicit. I deffinitely won't go around reccomending the book to my friends, I'll reccomend the show. Report It

I saw Wicked before the book and I love them both Report It

I've seen the show and I love it. I haven't read the book, but a lot of my friends have and they said it didn't compare to the play, so I probably won't read the book.

But if someone tries to convince me otherwise maybe i will.
Ive read the book and seen the show. Remember the musical is only "based" on the book. The show was awesome! The book is just as good...however the outcomes are completely different. The music is what makes the show the songs are excellent and well sung by the players ( especially the CD original cast members). The book was good as well but as always you get way more perspective. I encourage all to experience both the book and the Musical. Its a MUST SEE and READ!!
The musical is very very (very) different from the book.

The only thing that really survives is the wonderful idea of: what if the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch were friends ... say in high school.

I believe the author of the book has a little blurb in the CD package about how surprised he was to see which elements were pulled from his book to be used in the show.

It's a great premise and I'm glad to see the musical made into something a little more accessible to an audience - and I simply love Defying Gravity!
