What is an old musical film prior to 1960?

I am doing a film project for school and i need to watch two musical films. and one needs to be prior to 1960 and the other that has a logical progression from the classic(prior to 1960) to contemporary. I was thinking of doing the musical film "Chicago"(2003) but i dont know a musical film that i could do slightly related to it that is prior to 1960.(maybe one that includes dancing or something related to "chicago" .

If not, than any other suggestions for good musical films would be wonderful!!!!!!! Thank you soo much! you would really help me out a lot!

What is an old musical film prior to 1960?movie theatre

"Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," which is Marilyn Monroe's best musical. 1953.

What is an old musical film prior to 1960?playhouse opera theater

Damn Yankees (1958). Bob Fosse choreographed it, and also directed the original B'way production of Chicago. The 2003 film uses many of his signature moves(the feline grace, the sharply-delineated poses, the black bowler hats, the "pop" into a pose, the overt sexuality).

It is past your stated time-frame, but Sweet Charity (1969, his film directorial debut) contains that most Fosse-esque of all Fosse routines: "Hey Big Spender"

All That Jazz (1979, also directed by Fosse) offers a thinly fictionalized version of Fosse (Roy Scheider as "Joey Gideon") and the heart attack he suffered while directing Chicago and simultaneously editing Lenny (1974) a biopic about pioneering "sick" stand-up comic Lenny Bruce. It just starts there. Not suitable for youngsters, although I loved it when it came out, and I was 16.

Fosse also had a "specialty" dance number, with Carol Haney, in Kiss Me Kate (1953).
The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

State Fair (1945)

Easter Parade (1948)

White Christmas (1954)

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)

The King and I (1956)
Kiss Me Kate, might be a better choice
How about "Singing in the Rain" or "Gigi", lots of singing and dancing.Good luck!
You should do The Wizard of Oz. Maybe not the most original idea but it was a beautiful film, technicolor landmark. Then there's The Wiz, a film made in 1978. check them out on wikipedia and google them.
One of the top older films is "42nd Street", but there are lots of pre-1960 musicals:

Gigi

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Pal Joey

The King %26amp; I

Anchors Aweigh

On the Town

South Pacific

High Society

Kiss Me, Kate

Oklahoma!

Carousel

An American in Paris

Funny Face

Artists %26amp; Models

Guys %26amp; Dolls

White Christmas

Brigadoon

There's No Business Like Show Business

Call Me Madam

Singin' in the Rain

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Annie Get Your Gun

Summer Stock

Three Little Words

The Barkleys of Broadway

Easter Parade

The Pirate

The Harvey Girls

State Fair (1945)

Meet Me in St. Louis

Most of these are original musicals, while some are concocted from songs that already had been written. I wouldn't know which one to suggest to you.
Showboat is a good one.

The movie "All That Jazz"(1979) is kind of a predecessor to "Chicago".

Musical Styles Which Blended To Create New Genres?

I'd like to compare two sets, one great, one horrible

One Jazz and Rock combined to dreate Fusion

An amazing style of music pioneered by Jeff Beck The Mahavishnu Orchestra %26amp; Return To Forever

Two Metal and Rap compined to create the wretched Nu Metal

One of the absolute worst bottom of the barrel musicial styles in history, sperheaded by such talentless dreck as Korn Limp Biskit %26amp; Linkin Park

So, what rock musical styles can you came up with that have been created by the joining of two seperate musical styles?

Musical Styles Which Blended To Create New Genres?imax theater

Questions like this make me feel so out of the loop. I think the last New Genre I was aware of was Fusion. Sheesh! Being the age I am, I have found that I have a certain amount of energy to spend each day. Chasing sub-genres that have probably been made up by the media in the first place aren't high on my priority list. I have always approached music in a relatively simplistic manner: if I like it, then I listen to it, regardless of the genre. You know as well as anyone that any genre of music has at least one hidden little gem residing within it. I don't believe in sifting through all music to find them; I'm not that voracious or consumed. If I come across something that piques my interest because it made my ears happy, then I'll pursue it. Probably why I have so many single entries in my collection. I'm aware that we humans are hardwired to create little boxes of categories to make our world more palatable and orderly, but for myself, I realize that entropy is inevitable, so I embrace panache. Rock On, Darth.

First and foremost, do you hate nu-metal because you really dont like any nu-metal band such as Mudvayne, Slipknot, System Of A Down, and Chevelle (i know you only listed the s***ty ones to get people on your side) or are you simply jumping on the hate-nu-metal-bandwagon because all your friends are? Get a mind for yourself

Emo - the plague caused by meshing alternative and pop-punk. Nothing good can come from two bad pre existing genres.

Did I hit a nerve? LOL you actually took three posts to respond to my one comment lol. The truth can hurt sometimes, can it? Or if what I stated wasnt the truth, why are you taking so much offense to it?
You and Ryan are lame

Punk and Reggae made ska, Yay!

that guy wrote uncorrect, he spelled incorrect incorrectly....what a retard
it's sad how just because genres are semi-new, people are totally against them! People these days are so unaccepting of new music and there is so much hate. It's so annoying.

Sorry to have to write this in your answer but I have to say what's on my mind.

All music is joined in some way.. just like the messages sent out by punk and reggae can be so similar and so on
Ryan stfu about emo. Thats totally uncorrect; emo is not a blend of those two; at least the emotional hardcore and the indie emo scene weren't. Emotional hardcore was influenced by Husker Du and pioneered by former members of HxC punk band, such as Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto. The first indie emo band(SDRE) based their sound on post-hardcore bands like Fugazi, emotional hardcore, and post-punk band Mission of Burma. Bands after that lost most of the hardcore roots, but were still similar. Emo today is called emo becuase of a emo-influenced band, JEW, turned punk-pop.Emo today is generally bad and derived from pop punk, but bashing emo as a whole is retarded.
(:

well rap/so ganstah music mixed with screamo. ;o

i set my friends on fire covered solja boy
I too hate anything associated with rap......

I abolutely love Blues-rock %26amp; Southern-rock

ex: Tab Benoit, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream, Black Crowes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, etc etc
How about some Tropical music and Orchestra music to get Exotica genre. Martin Denny being one of the founding fathers of Exotica music. Also the Thrash Metal and Black metal creating Death metal genre, or Blues, Ragtyme, and Jazz to create Bluegrass. Bill Monroe comes to mind with creating Bluegrass. Throw in some crazy- a** chord progression, with electric instruments and you get Prog Bluegrass. Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt comes to mind here. The list is endless.

Edit: I'm into about everything. I listen to most anything, but feel sometimes I have'nt heard anything looking at the music discussed on Answers.
the minutemen combined everything and punk...

I heard some actors talking today and said that Les Miserables auditions would be happening in the next 3 - 4 months. They were adults so I don't know how the children's roles are cast. It may well be that they are stage school children. I suggest that you keep an eye on The Stage for auditions, have linked to the website, but you may have to wait a day or so before you can read the ads because subscribers to the newspaper get to see them first. You could get your parents to email Cameron Mackintosh's office to find out how and when children are cast. You should not do this yourself, as you are considered a child and will have to have your parents permission.

Musical scholarship to a college offering architecture courses?

Colleges and universities of all sizes offer scholarships of all types.

The scholarship that you are awarded may not have anything to do with what you decide to study.

I've linked you to the Occupational Outook Handbook, a publication of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. This entry will tell you about the architecture occupation. It will give you an overview of the nature of the work, the working onditions, education required, job outlook and earning potential.

Musical????

Anyone insane by loving musical songs?

And then they feel completely "geekish"?

Thats how I feel! Like I am an outstanding actress and have taken music lessons since age 10. (28 now) And I feel weird.

When I was little (11 elementary) We had a drama class every day for a week. And I remember in front of the whole 4 classes I had to sing a solo. the song was "Popular" from wicked. And then When I was 18 I had to sing "My strongest Suit" from adida at a talent show. And then I was in many plays like Last year I played Sharpay for High School Musical. And then in other plays like I was in Hairspray. (Penny) Is there something wrong with me? Or am I just a plain old geek! Or am I much more. Do I fit in? Please dont say, oh you are so talented!!! because I am not trying to brag. I think I know the answer, but actually is anyone like me?

Musical????comedy club

i am completly like you! that is so awesome!! i LOVE broadway songs, and thats all i have in my car, lol. I think you should try to pursue a career in musical theater. and don't worry, you arent a nerd! In highschool, us choir/theater kids always won homecoming/prom king/queen and everyone liked us. don't give up, go for your dreams. good luck honey!

NO WAY!!!!!! i love musicals too!!! your DEFINITELY NOT a dork or a geek!! you love what you do! theres nothing wrong with that!!! im just like you and i dont feel like a dork!!!! come on! how could you think that??!?!?
well you just reall enjoy musicals. and you enjoy what you do
OK. i def understand loving musicals but i do have one small problem with what you have written. If you are 28, than there is no way you were singing "popular" from wicked at the age of 11. Seeing as how the book was written into a musical and cast in 2001. Sorry. I would love to believe you but unfortunately being a musical lover I know this is false info.
There are MANY MANY MANY people out there in the world just like you who get emotionally attached to the genre of musicals in general, just because of the winning combination between music and drama that makes musicals so expressive and compelling. There are also quite a few people (among the general population and also within the theater industry) that find musicals campy, cheesy, and fake and what nothing to do with them. And of course there are some people in between. There is nothing wrong with you, you are a bit of a geek, but you are the luckiest kind of geek! You are a geek who is talented enough to go out and do the things you love, not just sit on the sidelines and...well...be geeky. Don't feel self-conscious, feel proud that you get to perform in ways that you love!

Is the musical "Wicked!" appropriate for a 10 year old?

My 10 year old daughter has the CD from the musical "Wicked!" and she loves it! I would like to take her to the musical, however I wonder about whether or not it would be appropriate for a 10 year old. Are there any parents out there who have seen the show, and/or taken their children? What are you thoughts? I have not seen the musical- although the entire household has the music memorized by now...

Is the musical "Wicked!" appropriate for a 10 year old?classical music

I took my 9 year old - and she LOVED it! I went to see it with my sister first and because I thought it might be a little mature for my daughter. However, I saw many "tweens" in the audience and they were enjoying the show as much as the adults were. So I took her to see it, but didn't mind seeing it again - it really is that good!

There is definitely adult humor, lots of sarcasm and 'read-between-the lines' moments, but nothing vulgar or what I would deem inappropriate. No foul language, no nudity, no "red cheek" moments as my own mom used to say :-) Just a fantastic musical Hope that helps~~

Is the musical "Wicked!" appropriate for a 10 year old?ms stress opera theater

"Wicked" is fine for your 10 year old daughter to see.
Yes..it is.
I don't see why not. I never saw it, but my step daughter did with her Mom when she was 11. It's still one of her favorites.
I think its perfectly appropriate, its about the same caliber as "The Wizard of Oz" if you want to check that out yourself.

There isn't anything racy or what not in it.

and It was a fantastic show.
Well in my opinion you should not limit your daughter when it comes to art. Parents these days are so protective of things like this when there is so much more to worry about. Wicked is an appropriate musical for her age, but you should really be more open to what she watches. It's not fair to limit her knowledge of the arts.
I saw the show last week and loved it. I'm planning to take my daughter for her 11th birthday in August. She also loves the CD and sings all the songs alllll the time... especially 'Popular'. Take her to the show!
Well if you let her listen to the CD then there shouldn't be a problem with it. You should be glad that your child enjoys Musicals rather then the everyday video games, and television.

Musical Theater Audition/Midterm Final question?

For my Musical Theater class, we have to sing a song with some choreography. It is our pre-audition for Cinderella, the musical we're doing next spring.

I want to sing God Help The Outcats from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

1. Are there any other songs I could do that are flowly enough to choreograph dancing to? (That can go with a Cinderella voice)

2. What should I sing for my audition song for Cinderella?

Musical Theater Audition/Midterm Final question?performing arts

1) What about: "I could have danced all night" from My Fair Lady. Or "I feel pretty" from West Side Story. Or maybe "The lusty month of may" from Camelot. All of these require a sweet voice and some choreography.

2) I like "Ten Minutes Ago". for an audition song. Definitely a song where you can choreograph something nice and have that dreamy "Cinderella-ish" moment. (That is if you are allowed to sing something from the show.) If not...what about "Some day my prince will come" from Sleeping Beauty.

Good luck! Break a leg!!!

You know, another great song that you could sing with an awesome choreography is: "Out Tonight" from Rent! It's awesome! And you'll get everyone in there grooving with ya! Besides, it's not extremely difficult on vocals either!

*And for Cinderella you could audition with "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret, or "What I did For Love" from a Chorus line! Let me know what you think, alright?

You already have some good advice here. I agree that "No-one Is Alone" from Into The Woods, or "Home" from Beauty %26amp; The Beast would be great. They're similar in tempo and melodic shape to "God Help The Outcasts". You might also like to consider "Somewhere" from West Side Story. It's tricky to advise further without knowing your vocal range, but only choose a song you are 100% comfortable with. If there are particular notes you can't hit with ease, choose something else. You'll have enough to think about dancing and singing simultaneously without worrying about "here comes the high bit"! Break a leg :)

I Cain't Say No

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

I Cain't Say No is a song from the musical play Oklahoma! written by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein II.

In the song, the secondary character Ado Annie Carnes describes her sexual awakening and the conflicts that it brings. Ado Annie has two principal suitors, a Persian traveling salesman Ali Hakim, and the cowboy Will Parker, recently returned from an excursion to Kansas City. She describes to Laurey the attention she is now receiving from men "since she filled out" and her inability to say "no" to their advances.

Lyrics

It ain't so much a question of not knowing what to do.

I knowed what's right and wrong since I was ten.

I heared a lot of stories and I reckon they are true

About how girls're put upon by men.

I know I mustn't fall into the pit,

But when I'm with a feller, I forget! (fergit)

I'm just a girl who can't say no,

I'm in a terrible fix I always say "come on, let's go"

Jist when I orta say nix!

When a person tries to kiss a girl,

I know she orta give his face a smack.

But as soon as someone kisses me,

I somehow, sorta, want a kiss him back!

I'm am a fool when lights are low

I can't be prissy and quaint

I ain't the type that can faint

How c'n I be what I ain't?

I can't say no!

What you goin' to do when a feller gets flirty, and starts to talk purty?

What you goin' to do?

S'posin' 'at he says that yer lips're like cherries, er roses, er berries?

What you goin' to do?

S'posin' 'at he says that you're sweeter 'n cream,

And he's gotta have cream or die?

What you goin' to do when he talks that way,

Spit in his eye?

I'm just a girl who can't say no,

Can't seem to say it at all

I hate to dissapoint a beau

When he is payin' a call!

For a while I lack refined and cool,

A settin on the velveteen setee

thenn I think of the ol' golden rule,

And do for him what he would do for me!

I cain't resist a Romeo

In a sombrero and chaps

Soon as I sit on their laps

Somethin' inside of me snaps

I can't say no!

Something There

No Matter What (reprise)

by no means sing a song from Cinderella unless you're gonna sing something from the Disney movie Cinderella like "Bippidy Boppidy Bo"
in my own little corner from cinderella. it's adaptable to whatever kind of voice you have.
I wish we knew a bit more about your voice, range, and experience, but we'll work with what we've got :)

Well, first of all, God Help The Outcasts is going to be darn near impossible to dance along with. If your theatre teacher is really lenient on your sources, Once More With Feeling has a great song called Give Me Something To Sing About with a similar range that shows off singing/dancing well. (Once More With Feeling was the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but there's a separate score available for purchase.)

As for the Cinderella audition, most anything from Into The Woods would be perfect. (Sondheim) I auditioned into my theatre company with an adaptation of No One Is Alone, but there are lots of different songs for female vocalists in most every range imaginable.

What I Did For Love, from A Chorus Line, might also be worth looking into.

Good luck!
well i think it depends on what kind of voice you have. if you have a soft angelic like voice or a strong earthy voice. if you have the first kind of voice then probably sing a song from sleeping beauty, cinderella, or snow white. but if you have the second voice, head for more songs that are in hercules or the little mermaid.

as for the first question. unless you are going to do a really upbeat song, it will be kinda hard to choreograph it. unless you knew how to dance in a contemporary style.
First of all, try to NOT use ANY song from the show.

Here is a list (various styles and ranges) that are perfect for cinderella. Take a look at the fallowing:

Fiona Cambell, Brigadoon, Song: Waitin' For My Dearie" (Accent Alert!)

Belle, Beauty %26amp; The Beast

Audrey, Little Shop Of Horrors, Song: "Somewhere That's Green"

Essie, Redhead, Song: "The Right Finger of My Left Hand"

Marion Halcombe, The Woman in White, Song: "All For Laura"

Being in your school play is more than just the choice of play ... it's all about the camaraderie, the fun and the learning experience of doing a show and being on the stage.

High School Musical (if the rights are available) is a good ensemble piece because there are many opportunities for people other than the leads to shine.

I've been acting in community theater for 40 years or so. If you have the ability to make people laugh, you've got something a lot of actors wish they had! Find a friend who also wants to audition and experience the fun of theater.

A friend who laughs at you is no friend at all.

You definitly a should do it.

Even if your friends think its dumb just ignore them if it something you really want to do go for it.

High School Musical is a great musical to do because everybody already knows all of the songs and obviously its a big hit. The Stage production also added new songs to it that are really good like Cellular Fusion.

The play has so many different roles so its good odds you are more likely to get a role if you got the talents.

Good Luck I hope you go through and do the play.
It's ok....But if you wanna do it who cares what your friends think?
dont listen to ppl who knock hsm...

...heres the thing. What makes HSM so appealing and fun is the fact that is it so corney, it's one of the lamest shows i have ever seen but that's the best part. You can act in this and be silly and overly melodramatic and sort of cartoon-ish. The songs are bubble gum pop. It's meant to be fun and corny just like the musical Honk! (which is very well respected). So dont worry about your friends laughing at you, just be silly have fun and they'll love it. Trust me I've done some dumb shows but if you keep in mind that what your doing is suppost to be lame and that ppl are supposed to laugh at it, you can really open up and have fun with it... and Rogers and Hammerstein are boring and over played...
Are you kidding me? HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL!!! Why not something real? Shakespear! If they want a musical, Try ROGERS AN HAMERSTEIN!! Not High School Musical. Where do you go? We should revolt!! :)
I just got done being in HSM, and I would reccomend being it 100%. I had the GREATEST time. It was soo much fun and I loved it. Don't let your friends get you down.
don't do high school musical. it's a stupid show. the story is dumb and cheesey, the songs are stupid, mindless pop songs. and there's no growth or depth to any characters.
high school musical is gay so it's stupid for a school to copy it
DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! im in 8th grade and if ur friends would laugh at u they are stupid. these 20 year olds are in the movie doing a GREAT job and if i had the chance to do something like u can do i wouldnt waste a second of it. dont let this opportunity slip through your fingers. you will regret it most likely.
do not be afraid of what ur friends think.. if there ur friends they'll think its cool and want to join themselves..I think that schools doing high school musical is a little over rated now .. but if i had it in my school i would join in and do it to because it would be fun

Website for Musical Auditions ...?

Is there a website to announce auditions for a new musical? I am in NYC and I have a show I will be directing hopefully in the fall. I have a few backers and we are looking into a theater (Off-Off B'way status). I want to get a jump on casting because I feel being able to have the right voices for the musical numbers will help entice more backers. I will directing myself.

I'll looking for actors/singers 18-25 for a "High School Musical" type show, circa 1962.

4 Female roles, 6 Male roles, plus small chorus

Website for Musical Auditions ...?say yes

The best place to list auditions is Backstage. www.backstage.com. Go to the website and you will see a link for the audition page. There is a "form" you need to fill out to post an audition notice which includes cast breakdown, requirements for audition, callbacks, location, time, etc. The more specific you are the better! Backstage also gives you option of leaving as an online audition, or it can go in their weekly paper. Every actor in NYC uses it! Since you are in the early stages of casting, you can put in a call for headshot and resumes only. You can also use Playbill, www.playbill.com. Another great tool is www.theatremafia.com

Best wishes on getting your musical on its feet!

I want to audition for musical theater and need a song from a broadway musical. I don't know many broadway shows and would like something for an alto mabe. Any suggestions or places on line i can get the sheet music for free?

It really depends on the show, and the character you are auditioning for. Try to find songs written by the same composer or in the same style as the show, and also one that reflects the character. Also, try to stay away from High School Musical, Wicked, or any other overdone peices. The directors will have heard these a thousand times before. My best suggestion is to find something little-known and right for your voice online. Google searches work fine. MusicalTheaterAudition.com also has some great ones. While your there, look up the show; it has character/plot descriptions and might help you choose a song. Break a leg! =]

I was actually rather impressed. You have a very nice voice. I would recommend getting voice lessons and working with an instructor to put together an audition tape.

Somethings you can start working on now. 1. Opening your mouth more when you sing. The more space to have inside your mouth the more sound will come out. 2. Also make sure that you tongue is flat on the bottom of your mouth. Having your tongue raised like an arch will block the air and sound coming out. Singing in front of the mirror will help. 3. Take big breaths from you diaphragm, not your upper chest. The bigger and deeper the breath, the purer your sound will be and there will be more power behind the notes.

These are tips that my voice teacher gave to me and it helped a lot!!

Good luck and practice, practice, practice, and practice!

THE DIDJERIDU

The didjeridu originated in Arnhem Land on the northern coastline of central Australia, and has some similarity to bamboo trumpets and even bronze horns developed in other cultures, though it pre-dates most of these by many millennia. The characteristic feature is that the didjeridu, which is a slightly flaring wooden tube about 1.5 metres in length, is simply hollowed out by natural termites ("white ants") from the trunk of one of the small trees of the region. After cutting down, the instrument is cleaned out with a stick, the outside refined by scraping and then painted with traditional designs, and the blowing end smoothed by adding a rim of beeswax.

Musical!?!?!?

We are doing a musical in my musical theatre class and its called "Doo Wop Woo Widing Hood" and i have auditions tomorrow! So im looking for the song lyrics. The song im looking for is called "Doo Wop Woo Widing Hood" its the intro song. So if anyone can find the lyrics that would be great! or if you know them! thanks!

Musical!?!?!?ms stress

Believe it or not put cotton in one ear... that will make one of your ears able to hear yourself. I always did that when performing as sometimes the pa systems were so loud with every one else you could get drowned out by the monitors facing you (no problem with the audience hearing you, just you hearing you).... the next thing is to practice singing a third above a note and a fifth above the note, then below the note and then do fourths above and below. Pick notes at random and try to zone in on the pitch that you are trying for. Hope this helps.

Musical!?!?!?home theater system opera theater

It sounds like you're doing a show that's exclusive to a place like Pioneer drama and ou can only get the info from them which means you won't get the lyrics until your director gives them to you. Actually I just did a search and that's exactly what it is, and it's called "Doo-Wop Wed Widing Hood" http://www.pioneerdrama.com/searchdetail... On this page there's another link to a study guide for the play and another link to a cast list. There are also links on the right for song samples :-)

Since this is not a mainstream show, this is probably the best you're going to be able to do but it's better than nothing!

If you can't find the lyrics by googling it then your best bet is to just use aol search or just wing it and ask the teacher to help you learn the lyrics after you make the cut. best of luck to you.

What is the point of a musical if it has nothing to do with music?

Okay, I auditioned for my school musical, and I have been taking voice lessons since I was 7, and I have a gift of music in my blood. So, this is the second time I was casted an awful part in the musical. My mom called the producer, and said that what you are casted in the musical, has NOTHING TO DO WITH MUSICAL ABILITY. So, no matter how good someone's voice is, it will not effect the part they get at all. I understand that more people are musically challenged, than by acting. But still. If it's a MUSICAL. It should have SOMETHING to do with MUSIC! Might as well do any ordianary play. What do you think?

What is the point of a musical if it has nothing to do with music?opera score

I think it should have to do with music. If you are vocally gifted then you will have no problem getting parts in many productions other than just this one place. A musical also has to do with putting together a production in which many people can preform and not all be the best musically, just a set of preformers.

What is the point of a musical if it has nothing to do with music?musicals opera theater

I think a musical is stupid if you don't have music. And I had a basketball coach once who put in his daughter almost all the game.
there is no point of it!
Maybe you have a good voice in your opinion, but it might not be suitable for a musical, there are so many different styles of singing and for a musical the most important thing is that the words are understood, amybe your style makes it hard to hear the words? Or possibly they are looking more for acting talent than singing. They could also be prioritising for the older people inyour school as it's their last chance to perform there. Ask the producer why you didn't get a better role, maybe it's something you can improve on,
First of all, don't ever have your mom call the producer about something like that. And stop her if she tries to do it on her own. Nothing is more annoying than getting a call from someone's parent about the casting of a show. I know several people who were blacklisted from a theatre company because their moms called all the time, complaining about this and that.

A musical is not just music. There are many things involved. It's not a musical revue where the music rules and the acting is either non-existant or not important. Acting is just important as the music in a musical. It's a package deal. And in a school situation, I think it's important to make it a learning experience. Sometimes the best person for a certain role might not be the one with most talent, but the one who will learn the most from having the role.

If you feel like your talent is being wasted at your school, then you need to audition for community theatre or dinner theatre or something like that. You aren't required to participate only in school theatre productions, just because you are a student there. Branch out!
I agree, to a point. Since a musical production basically depends on the music to tell the story, it helps if the performer has a modicum of singing talent. (Though on the other hand, you never commented on the talent of the person who was cast in the role you wanted.) However, what the producer might have meant is that the ability to put your character into the song--to put heart and soul, to make the audience believe that it's natural for that particular character to convey the message better through music than through regular dialogue--is more important than how much talent goes into the performance. The worst singers can still put all there heart and soul into a performance to make it believable; while the most talented voices can totally screw up the mood of the production with a poor performance of the role.

The producer obviously put you would fit the character chosen for you. My advice would be to do the best job you know how to do with this part, and maybe when the next opportunity comes along, the producer will place you in a role more to your liking.

Good luck, anyway.
People sometimes miss the point - let them alone, they're miserable already
A musical is not all about singing a song well. Its about character and ambition. You need to become the character, put personality into it, have more to offer than just a well sung song.

Musical Freestyle Song Ideas?

I am doing a musical freestyle with my horse at training/first level.

I know I have to find his beats per minute ect. but does anybody have any song idea that have worked for them in the past? Or hints on how to create and interesting Musical freesyle. I am not into classical music, my horse deas not have that personality, so leave that out unless it is a must.

thanks

Musical Freestyle Song Ideas?home theatre

Lately the big thing is doing the sport enter songs- you know the ones they play while they are introducing players before a big game.

If your horse is spunky then you might want to go for some old swing music.

If he's a laid back type of guy go for songs that were popular in the 70's.

When I competed in fourth level I had a mix of classical and Johnny Cash songs. If you have a chance just get some of your favorite songs together and start downloading them on your computer. Most computers have a CD maker where you can edit songs and add sounds and overlay tracks. We didn't have that technology back when I competed but I do that now for kids and their horses that I train.

Musical Freestyle Song Ideas?ballet theater opera theater

Before you begin you must gather a few pieces of crucial information.

1.The number of steps per minute your horse takes for each of the paces it will use.

2.The length of time it takes for the horse to complete the required moves in each of the paces.

3.The target length of the music.

4. Which is your horse's best pace, and which is its worst.

From this information you can choose music of the correct speeds for your horse and you can make an interim allocation of time for each of the paces.

Using a stop watch, or any other timing device, count your horse's paces. Do this when the horse is going well. Using a video camera allows you to concentrate on the riding, and do the counting later in comfort. In trot and walk count the rear feet. In canter count the inside rear foot. Most horses' paces fall into the range:- trot = 125 to 185 steps per minute, and both walk and canter = 85 to 115 steps per minute.

If your horse has a weakness it is tempting, and sensible, to design a test which shows as little of that weakness as possible. However, you must be certain you allocate enough time to fit in the moves required in each pace, including the dodgy one, otherwise the judge is going to bounce you. Do these moves in the practice arena against the clock to establish the time they take, then add a few seconds for safety.

To establish your target time first read the latest version of the rules for your level and find out what minimum and maximum time your are allowed. Each level allows a fairly generous bracket of time, but it is easy to get so close to one end of the bracket that a dodgy tape player at the competition could put you outside it. Aim for the middle. For example, if at your level the bracket is from four minutes thirty seconds to five minutes, your target time is four minutes, forty five seconds.

All horses have their strengths and weaknesses. Be very clear in your mind which is which in your horse, and divide up the target time accordingly. Beware though - onlookers (and judges ?) tend to switch off if treated to too much walk.

You are now in a position to design a test which makes good dressage sense and which will show your horse in the best possible light. It is not the job of this site to tell you how to do this.

The next stage involves hours of listening to music in the search for the perfect accompaniment for your horse. In theory almost anything goes, so it is all a matter for personal choice, which is not really much help when you consider how much music is out there. However, you can get on the scent of something suitable quite quickly with a structured approach. A theme, any theme, eliminates great oceans of music. A certain show, TV themes, a favourite composer, music about flowers - anything that will get you started in some kind of direction. If you get diverted onto a different course along the way it doesn't matter because you still have a purpose - it's just a different one. Your horse's character might give you clues. Wagner might lend himself to a big, bold horse whereas themes from childrens TV programmes might suit a small dainty pony.

You will quickly find that hardly any music exists that is precisely the right speed for your horse. Do not despair - these days it is possible to alter speeds of some forms of music without damaging the sound too much. Avoid large speed changes because the character of the music may be altered so much that it ceases to do the job you intended it for.

The mere fact that you are out here on the Web suggests you know how to look beyond the confines of your own house for what you want. Nevertheless, a summary of what is available can do no harm. CDs, tapes, videos, LPs and singles belonging to you, your friends and families, their friends and families, and in libraries. TV and the radio (I know, I know - but I won't tell if you don't). Music files stored in computers and keyboards anywhere in your life. MIDI files, WAV files and any other kind of sound files out here on the Internet.

Good luck and have fun!...
I saw a stunning musical freestyle ride at The Washington International Horse Show done to Cher's Song for The Lonely. I have also seen Eye of The Tiger used.

You could make a cloak-style one easily enough using theatrical satin.

I buy fabric from http://www.fabricland.co.uk

Or get your acrylics out and paint a white coat up with rainbow stripes!
You can rent the coat from a costume shop or maybe a theatre you've worked at.

As for other costume ideas, there are plenty but I don't know what you look like... Just think of all the roles you break down for! Thinking of Joseph makes me think of "The King". Maybe Sweeney Todd, Someone from Camelot or even Spam-a-lot, Rocky Horror, Bugsy Malone, Conrad Birdie, Cyrano, A Funny Thing Happened..., Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Phantom of the Opera, Phantom, etc.

Have fun!

Is musical theatre racist?

Someone just told me the what the musical "Cats" is about and I am positively livid Siamese cats are completely unrepresented and infact are DISCRIMINATED AGAINST by not complying with the "jelicle" standard. (i.e. white and black, moderate size, moonlit eyes...) I interrupted the story teller MANY times to explain my dissatisfaction.

When musical theatre can not celebrate the Siamese breed arent we all losing? Shame on you "Cats" producers!

it isn't the producers fault about the lyrics of the song. Blame Andrew Lloyd Webber on that.

and if I remember correctly, in the movie version of the musical Cassandra was a siamese... the cats are the breed that their costume is. When I was in the show I was a black and white tiger type cat.

I get livid about there not being any blue food. Blueberrys are purple. No where is there such a thing as blue food. Now that is blatant discrimination. The standard color is either brown or white. How can green be called food when it is so close to blue? I just do not understand why this has not been corrected. Most of us COLORISTS are adamantly opposed to food at this time.
Are you serious...
yes really? are you serious? The musical Cats is based on "Old Possoms Book of Practical Cats". A book of poetry about cats.

The musical is done, now what?

I have finally finished a musical that I have been writing for three years. I am using the music of another artist that inspired me to tell this story. Aside from getting a US copyright for the dialogue and the permission from the artist to use their music. I need to know what else I should do or whom to see. I am from the nyc area and am hoping to know what to do next. What is the process for doing this, how can I really make this happen, what will get my foot in the door. Would a power point presentation be something to add on to musical to sway the labels that own the music, to let them know where this idea came from. Or should I hope the writing it self will be enough to win them over? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

The musical is done, now what?paramount theater

This is tough. I think your largest stumbling block may be getting permission to use the artist's music. You sound as if you're not worried -- but what if someone used your words to tell their story -- and their story had nothing to do with what you were trying to say? I should start over: CONGRATULATIONS! I myself have written a musical and had it produced by a local theater. It is a long journey -- and that first production was only the beginning. Your FIRST step is to get permission, and, uh... if you don't get it -- you said you worked three years on this (I took two, I understand) it sounds like you know the story well enough -- could you write your own lyrics and look for a composer? And if you've already written your own lyrics, then all you have to do is find a composer. No power point needed: Put the script in three different composer's hands and see who seems the most enthusiastic. Then, be prepared: you work as a team. (But you'd have to split it with the original artist anyway, so...) I am wishing you so much luck -- I know that if you get the music thing settled, you won't have any problem getting the musical workshopped and produced at a NYC theatre -- New Musicals are all the rage! Remember that at this point you have to put away some ego and roll up your sleeves for a whole new step in the game. I believe in you -- keep going.

The musical is done, now what?theatre opera theater

Now you gotta find backers.

You have to package it.

I watched the late Stephen Stucker try and put one out on Dracula.

Stucker, of course, was a long time member of Kentucky Fried Theater and was in both Airplane movies and long time friends of Abrahams and Zuckers, who were also in Kentucky Fried Theater.

Stucker played all the music on keyboards and had a drummer I think working with him. He wrote all the songs.

He was able to get backers who were able to get money and they put this on under Equity Wavier at a 99 seater and got a lot of SAG/Equity talent, including the bar tender from Three's Company and that character actor that looks exactly like Bella Lugosi.

They put it on in back street theater and as far as I know they did two versions and neither attracted any big backers.

I also so a backstreet theater production based on the life of rock promoter Bill Graham, starring Ron Silver.

I don't think it ever made it to Broadway. It wasn't a music, it was a drama. SLice of life.

You can take it to small theater companies and see if they will try it out.

You can take it to college students and see if you can try it there.

When Claudia Weil was working out her script for Girlfriends, she took it to Juliard and had the acting students there put it on as a stage play in a class room or very small theater.

Several of the students got parts when she started filming, including one of the leads.

Those are your starting point. Video it as good as you can, made DVDs and use it as presentation to hit promoters.

See if you get any critical reviews from small papers.

It's about putting a package together and getting nibbles from professionals.

Weber and Rice wrote a Cantana as part of their College MAsters Thesis, I believe. It was based on the Biblical story of Joseph and his brothers.

They put it on at the college with a local top 40 band playing the music, Weber's father Sr. Lloyd Weber playing pipe organ and some high school kids singing the choir parts.

They even made a recording of it.

I guess they took it around town. They also wrote a few "tin pan alley" tunes that made a few ripples on the Charts and eventually got Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood (who started out as the manager of Brian Epstein's London record store, Nems and then handled all of Brians' talent except for the Beatles) to back a recording of their opera JC Superstar. That put them on the map, the recording of Joseph and the Technicolored Dreamcoaat they made at the school get released and sold well, I had a copy. I was interested in doing it for TV, but Peter Brown of the Stigwood company told me they were trying to put it on Broadway. That took them 7 years to do from the time I wrote them about licensing the music.

I don't even know if it went Broaday. Might have just been Off Broadway. When I saw it in Los Angeles it was at the Aquarius theater, not at the Music Center like Evita and Phantom were.

You got a tough road if it takes Robert Stigwood 7 + years to get Joseph on stage. The first production of Joseph was probably in the mid 1960s. Probably 1966 in England at the school and I think I saw Joseph at the Aquarius in the 1980s.

Taht's like 15 - 20 years to go from school presentation to Los Angeles commercial showing.

And Robert Stigwood was a consumate showman and producer who had the likes of Bee Gee, Eric Clapton, Weber and Rice and a firm distribution deal with Germany's Polygram
First of all, I think you need a producer. If the producer likes your work, then he/she might help you to get the rights for the music.
Watch it and enjoy.

Is musical ability a genetic trait, or a tangible talent which can be learned?

Traits like hair and I eye color are for the most part absolutely predetermined. But are traits such as musical ability genetic, resulting in only a limited amount of people has that trait? Or, is it something that's learned and can be possessed by anyone? Is it possible to take steps prior to the birth of a child to ensure that he/she is born with embedded musical talent?

Is musical ability a genetic trait, or a tangible talent which can be learned?opera ticket

"Talent" is a tough call as to how much is genetic component and how much is environment. It seems that to truly excel in an area repetition, muscle memory etc, are absolutely necessary, meaning that environment trumps genetics, and yet there clearly is an intangible aspect to things like music where emoting and style is a large part that really don't seem to be taught or learned.

I think there are a lot of genetic pre-dispositions, but when it comes to talent, I think for the most part, the environment is a larger factor than the genetics.

Is musical ability a genetic trait, or a tangible talent which can be learned?pacific theater opera theater

As far as singing, you are either born with vocal ability or you're not. You can learn to use what you have better if you are born with the ability, but if you are born without it, it cannot be changed anymore than you can change your skin color.

With playing a musical instrument, it can go either way. Some people have abilities that are obvious from a very young age - like the people who can play piano by ear perfectly without ever having had one lesson. For others, it is just that a love of music and/or a certain instrument is strong enough that they strive to learn and excel - no different than someone who strives to excel at a sport that they love.

There is no way to control who is born with what. Most people in my family sing or play instruments, we've been musical for generations, but my son has zero interest, even though he has a great voice. All you can do is introduce a child to as much music as possible and see where it goes. If nothing else, there's plenty of research around these days to show that it does something in the brain that helps them understand math and science better. But don't push a child whose real interests lie elsewhere. Many people just enjoy music as a listener only, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Yes, musical talents can be learnt. I have many friends whose parents do not have much talent in music, yet they have musical talents.
A bit of both, plus also possibly kind of an extra random factor like when someone is 'gifted' but there doesn't seem to be any genetic basis for it. I'd be playing heaps of different types of music and also making sure that in the early years children also hear many different types of accents.
i think the mechanical aspect of learning an instrument is something that can be learnt. for example, i believe you can teach someone the notes on a piano and how to play a piece of music.

however, i believe that interpretation of the music and 'feeling' that someone plays with is somewhat genetic. there are just some people who can take notes on a page and make it into the most beautiful sounds you have ever heard. i don't think you can teach someone how to do that.
A person has to be born with some inate abilitiy (thus, genetic) to have any musical talent. I am a person who has none. I cannot appreciate music. It is just noise to me. Some of the "noise" a real irratant to me. I cannot tell if a stringed insturment is in tune or not. I was pushed during grade school age to learn music, but never did. My husband is the same. He cannot tell on a piano which note is "higher" or "lower" until you get about 5 notes apart.
it is genitic but you also have to learn to do it say your mom and dad both played drums vwery well you would probaly be good at it as well but you have to learn to do it

It's hard for me to know exactly what your friend would like, but you can certainly do a bit of research by looking here:

http://stageagent.com/shows.php?id=1743

Unfortunately Zanna Don't is the only show that Alexander Dinelaris and Tim Acito have done according to Stage Agent so I can't recommend anything similar since I'm not familiar with the show.

Here's another page with info about that show inparticular:

Maybe some songs from Rent, Time Warp from Rocky Horror, Altar Boyz (maybe the mega mix?), Something from The Boy From Oz, Footloose, Grease, Hairspray, High Fidelity, Agony from Into The Woods, Jersey Boys, The Producers (Keep It Gay, or Springtime For Hitler?), Spamalot, Spring Awakening (just get him this whole CD), Urinetown (It's a Priveledge to Pee), and The Wedding Singer?

good luck!

Good Musical Theatre Songs?the grand theater opera theater

Wicked is an exellent musical. Rent is also awesome for that style. Fiddler on the roof is good, too. Email me, and I'll be thinking of more, cause I know they'res tons.
Wicked, Rent, Hairspray, Cats, Just Email me 4 more
Les Miserables is wonderful for pop-ish but still meaningful songs, and the story is beautiful. Once on This Island has some great ones, such as Waiting for Life and Forever Yours, both of which are beautiful. Also, Little Shop of Horrors is just awesome and so is Urinetown (Act 1 Finale is my favorite from that one.)

Good luck!

What musical?

Our Drama teacher has been giving us hints to what our musical will be this year. (Last year it was Pirates of Penzance.) Here are the hints:

1. The title has four words.

2. The two main characters fall in love.

3. It takes place in a city.

4. Someone dies.

5. Hammond B-3.

Any idea what musical it is?

I don't think it's Phantom, I am almost positive that the rights to Phantom are not available. When a show is on Broadway, it is not available for amateur performace.

What musical?star theater opera theater

Phantom of the Opera?
most probably it's Romeo and Juliet
Beauty and the Beast?
It could be Once On This Island! :)
you got me on that one.

Maybe Phantom of the Opera.

I know the phantom played a Hammond B-3.

let me know if I'm right ok?

What defines a musical?

My girlfriend says something can only be considered a musical if there is a stage version of the play whereas I think that that musical only needs to have songs sung by the characters and that the songs have to move the plot forward. Does anyone have different ideas of what defines a musical?

What defines a musical?musicals

To answer what noone yet has. YOu are right and she is wrong. There are musicals based on movies and that have no other basis than their own concept. There need not be a straight play of the story. That is silly.

What defines a musical?opera songs opera theater

Watch any Fred Astaire, or Busby Berkeley movie, definition enough.
Musical theatre is a form of theatre combining music, songs, spoken dialogue and dance. The emotional content of the piece – humor, pathos, love, anger – as well as the story itself, is communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.

The three main components of a musical are the music, the lyrics, and the book. The book of a musical refers to the "play" or story of the show – in effect its spoken (not sung) lines; however, "book" can also refer to the dialogue and lyrics together, which are sometimes referred to (as in opera) as the libretto (Italian for “little book”). The music and lyrics together form the score of the musical. The interpretation of the musical by the creative team heavily influences the way that the musical is presented. The creative team includes a director, a musical director and usually a choreographer. A musicals production is also creatively characterized by technical aspects, such as set, costumes, stage properties, lighting, etc. that generally change from production to production (although some famous production aspects tend to be retained from the original production, for example, Bob Fosse's choregraphy in Chicago).

Boring, tedious, mind-numbing, soppy, annoying rubbish.
A musical must have at least one song for each character, either alone or as a duet.

The main characters' songs should be the "show stoppers."

The musical need not be portrayed entirely in song, there can be scenes of spoken dialogue.

Stage musicals are better, and most film musicals are adaptations of stage productions.
A musical in both theater and movie screen is a comb ination of song and dance.

Short musical thingy?

a couple years ago my sisters little choir put on a musical ill try to describe it:

the teacher asks the class their most memrable summer memory

they sing songs about it like Sidewalks of New York. (east side west side all around the town..etc.) Crawdad hole (whats that tuggin at the hook dare i take a little look hope ive caught me one today..etc) and like a square dancing one

i really want to know the name of that musical anyone know? p.s. it was like kind of short maybe only 30-45 mins. so please help.

Short musical thingy?performing arts show

Sorry I can't help.

But surely your sister would know what it was..because you said "my sisters little choir" so I am guessing she was in it?

So why don't you ask her..

X

This sounds like the choir put together a bunch of songs and wrote a flimsy story to link them all together. I sincerely doubt it's an actual musical, just a cute thing for a choir to perform at a concert or something. Sorry to disappoint.

Best audition songs for low altos?

I'm looking for a good audition song (NOTHING Andrew Lloyd Webber) for an upcoming musical audition. My range is low alto (e below middle c) to moderately high soprano (high c). However, the strongest part of my range is the low alto part. The musical I'm auditioning for is Godspell.

I'm not interested in auditioning with anything from overused musicals such as Wicked, Hairspray, Chicago, etc. I love all those musicals but directors around me are sick of them.

I was looking at:

Shy from Once Upon a Mattress

Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered from Pal Joey

Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening

Happy Talk from South Pacific

But I'm not sure about any of those.

Suggestions, please!

Any other altos out there audition with a great song?

(Must be female solo, Broadway/musical/showtune song)

Well. I don't have a song from a musical. But try singing bubbly or Concrete Angel. Concrete Angel is a really sad song, but Bubbly is a really fun. song.

If you want a solo from a musical, try The Wizard and I from wicked.

Am I too old to learn ballet?

Ok i know this has been asked a couple times but i just want to ask myslef to find out! :-) Ok, i've been doing theatre all through high school done really good with it, been in musicals around the community even having 4 parts in one. Now i have a full ride theatre scholarship and i'm excited! But, i want to make myself a triple threat and learn dance now becasue i did a lil dance at my last musical and my friend and i were bored and we learned the high school musical dances lol, and it just hit me that i love dance so much!! For the musical in a town over, i'm going to just get an apartment there till the school semester starts at my college and go do the musical there. But i was thinking about taking dance classes there as well, get a lil more experience. So i guess i kinda strayed off but is 17 to old to start ballet for a guy?

Thanks for looking if you don't even have an answer! :-)

Am I too old to learn ballet?concert tickets

Let me tell you my story. I took tap briefly in my early teens, but hated it. I quit all dance and studied theatre and art until sixteen, when I took my first ballet class. I was in and out of class for almost a year before family issues forced me to quit. Finally, when I was eighteen, I began taking ballet classes everyday. Two years later, I was dancing professionally.

In my career, I have danced with the Pacific Festival Ballet under director John Gardner, the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Oakland Ballet under Ronn Guidi, the San Francisco Ballet under Helgi Thomas and several other companies. I have been the Resident Choreographer of three companies, the Assistant Artistic Director of two and the Artistic Director of one professional company. I am currently the Artistic and Managing Director of my own Theatre company.

And I didn't even do my first plie until I was Sixteen.

So go to your local dance toggs store, get the gear and get your *** into class. If you love it and you have ANY talent, you can be a GREAT success in the world of Ballet. Just look at me!

If you wish to contact me directly, please do. I would be happy to help you in your journey. As a man in the Ballet world, you have a HUGE adventage. Drop me a line and I will gladly answer any questions you have. Good luck!!!

My grandmother just decided she is ready to study Freud. If you were 103 and bed-ridden, I would say YES. You are a healthy young man. Try it out. If you decide it is not for you, you haven't lost anything.
u are way too old ur gonna look like an idiot i have a friend whos friend did that and she got made fun of now she doesnt show her face she is so stressed about this cause kids can be so cruel
Your never to old for anything, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!
I really don't think you're too old for something like that. After all, not too long ago I turned 43, and I'd still like to learn to drive with a standard transmission. Good Luck to you. :-)
No. It does take alot of hard work and discipline. I love your confidence. You wear it beautifully. :)
you're never too old to learn anything!

I'm 16, and I'm planning on learning ballet over the summer myself, and by that point I'll be 17, which I think is just fine.

go for it!
You most definitely are not too old! If your dream is to learn to do ballet, then you have to follow that dream. You are still very young and very flexible. Go for it! Don't let anyone hold you back from your dreams.
never to old
Nope!!!!

you are never too old to learn something! Have fun !
Although there are some that had started learning ballet since they were an infant.

Surely they may be greatly experience, but if this is what you truly want to do, than anything is possible.

With time, you would gradually increase your flexibility and skills.

I reckon that if you work on your goals and know what you want in life then you can definitely achieve most things.

A great dancer, Mao Xiao; started ballet when he was just 11 and within a few years he is one of the best known in China, Australia and America.

Because you are so interested in dancing, why dont you try and option for a wide variety of different type of dance classes.

Mix what you will learn in ballet, with a bit of jazz, tap, modern or even hip hop.

The best dancers, are not just the ones that has endure years of practice but the ones with variety, passions and skills.

Best of luck. =]
Your never too old, and its never too late :}
true, you are never to old. just go for it and have fun
No way you are not to old.If you want to do it go for it!!! It sounds like you will pick up quick good luck.
Of course not! Geesh, you're only 17. You may not become Baryshnikov but you can learn enough ballet to enhance your theater talents. You can also take classes in jazz, tap, contemporary and even ballroom. Each style will add something to your movement, and resume. Plus it's all good exercise. Enjoy.
guys shuld nevr do ballet past 8. girls shuld nevr do ballet past 12. so dont. but if u want to dance try another type.
no you are not to old.
One word for you my friend... SpamalloT!!
No one is ever too old to begin dancing! As long as you have the desire to do so (which it seems like you definitely do) then that should be enough! :)

Dance.Net is a great place to check out many forms of dance and the forums are full of helpful dancers that can answer any question you may have.

Oh, and if you still feel like you are too old to begin ballet, check out this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engla...

Best of luck and congratulations on your scholarship! :)
you're never too old to learn to dance!! and girls love dancing with guys, btw. like if you become a great ballet dancer and you can partner with a girl- it's totally cute :]
No way... go ahead.
youre not too old to learn anything.. this included.. good luck
As long as you don't expect to become a world reknown prima ballerina, it's never too late to learn. It's great exercise too.
No not at all!
In North America at least, boys tend to start ballet at a later age than girls do, often in early teens. Don't let being in your mid-teens discourage you.

Take a look at the stories of these "rising stars": http://www.classicaldancealliance.org/Fe... The American born young men started ballet at 12 and 13 respectively and only a few years later are winning major awards.
GO FOR IT!!!! Have a lot of fun, do your best, and work EXTREMLEY HARD since you are starting a little l8r in life.

xoxoxo maddie
no there are tons of ppl who go on through life learning new things...plus if u want to learn something to help u in life...i say go for it, it will all be worth it in the end! :p
depends on what you want to do! if you want to do it DO IT!!!

Thats a NO
You are never too old for anything.
wow, first off i should say thank u. because i'm 17 and thought i was way tooo old to learn ballet but after seeing all the responses say that i'm not, i'm completly inspired in a whole new way to continue dancing. i kno it sounds really corney but its tru. thanks

Making a new musical....help?

I'm writing a musical, but I don't have a composer to write the songs. People have ignored me about this subject forever and I don't think my show will ever get off the ground. My friends are very supportive of my dream to create a new musical but I have to admit that they're just saying that to make me feel better. Please contact me if you can help.

Also. I could use some help with the TITLE. The only description I can give about the musical is that it has to do with a young mortician and a small town in the victorian era.

Well, I think you're in the wrong venue. You need to go to some of the Broadway boards, such as All That Chat and Broadway World and tell people you need help finding a composer. talkingbroadway.com/allthatchat or broadwayworld.com. There are other sites as well.

As far as the title, at this moment, I'm drawing a blank. Good luck though.

If you write it in the style of Monty Python's "Spamalot" (similar time period), you will get a lot of laughs without being too offensive towards any one particular religion.
Could be interesting, and I can think of three ideas right off that might work--a segment of the life of Saladin; the capture and ransom of Richard the Lionhearted; the calling forth of the children for the Children's Crusade. A number of operas have used the Crusades as their base, including Verdi's IL LOMBARDI and Handel's RINALDO.
Omg as I read this I totally thought of Monty Python doing this, a la 'Holy Grail' or some such....

King Richard: "Open your gates! It is I, King Richard, here to vanquish you!"

Castle Knight: "Whaht ees thees? English pig dog! I fart in your general direction!"

King Richard: "Now, just wait one minute! You're French!"

Castle Knight: "And your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Old Man from Scene 57: *cackle*!

Group of men enter stage right - "No one expects... The Spanish Inquisition!"

Oh, you get the idea. =)

Saul
It sounds like a great idea, but you have to be aware that the crusades were against the Muslims, so you might have trouble with the politically correct. The children's crusade could be a good one, although it failed miserably.

Hope this helps.
Too late. There is an oratorio called The Children's Crusades written by Gabriel Pierne in the 1860s. When I was a rent-a-kid (singer called in for professional performances when they needed kids who sang) I was in it - I had to be around 1963 or so. I still remember sections - it was pretty cloying stuff, and really bigoted - all Muslims were evil, etc. Rather touchy area for this current point in our history.
